Side view mirror glass replacement?

Side view mirror glass replacement?
How hard is to replace the glass in the side view mirror and what all is involved in doing so? My driver's side, side view mirror glass just broke and I need to replace it.
Repair shops want anywhere between 100 to 170 to replace the glass and I would rather not pay that.

You can get replacement glass off of eBay for less than 20 bucks shipped. Make sure you measure your glass before you order. It will give instructions on the site how to measure. There will be a hole underneath the mirror housing. Just insert a phillips screwdriver and unloosen the glass holder and it will come out. It makes it easier to remove the broken glass. You just take a paint scraper and start prying off the old glass and pushing from the back. You'll see what I mean when you get the glass holder out. When you get your new glass just use the self adhesive pads that are included. I cleaned both contact points with alcohol (not beer) and it has stayed very secure. Hope that helps!

I replaced the glass in my side mirror (aftermarket) with a piece of old mirror glass from an old medicine cabinet. Hardest part was cutting the rounded corners on the glass to fit the shape of the glass. Cost $0.00.

I took my 4Runner into the auto-glass place and they ordered just the glass and replaced it. (I didn't pay, because someone else broke it) Its probably cheaper than buying a new mirror, unless you can get one from a junkyard for real cheap.

Well, I ended up just getting another mirror from a salvage yard for cheap.
Now my question is how do you remove the screw that holds the side view mirror in place?? The screw I'm talking about hidden up inside the door frame (at the top of the pyamid shape that the three bolts make).
I can replace the mirror except I just can't see where you unscrew that that screw at or even how you would get to it.

You don't remove that screw, it stays in place. After you remove the bolts lift the mirror slightly and pull it from the door. There is a small plastic piece attached by that screw, I think to help with keeping the mirror on the door until you get the bolts in. That plastic piece is only slightly smaller than the hole in the door so you have to get the mirror in the right place to remove it. Just pull gently out and move it up and down until it comes off.
