Shell for 04 Tacoma--which ones fit?
I am looking to buy a used shell for my 04 xtra cab tacoma. Primarily looking for a used one but unsure how to tell which ones will fit. I have seen some for sale for different year tacomas and some for ranger type trucks. What years and or makes can be cross utilized?
Any advice on which brands etc would be appreciated too.

Keep an eye on Craigslist for your area. I recommend waiting for a listing for one that was specifically on a 96-04 Tacoma, so that you get one that you know will fit.

Just for the record, you do *not* want one designed for a Double Cab's shorter bed.
Any shell designed for a 1995.5 - 2004 Tacoma XtraCab or Regular Cab will fit the *bed* as such, but ...
... be aware that the rear walls of Regular Cabs and XtraCabs (during this period) are different. The Regular Cab wall is essentially vertical, whereas the XtraCab rear wall has a forward-tilted slant to it.
Some shell manufacturers have made 2 different shells - each designed to closely parallel the two different contours.
What I'm driving at is ... If you get a shell specially designed for a Regular Cab, the shell's front wall will be vertical, leaving a gap (between it and your XtraCab rear wall) at the top.
If you want maximum aesthetics, bear this in mind. If it doesn't matter, no biggie ...
