i think i'll just ask some of the gearheads at the shop what they think tomorrow, then i'll have the rest of the day to find a nice deep nut of about 16mm or so to weld on. i'm hellbent on getting that thing out now

You could just leave the fill plug on there permanently and fill through the vent hole on top. Might talke a little bit longer to fill but it'll work.

was gonna bring it down into the welding shop to do it last wednesday and ended up getting sidetracked by other stuff i'm planning on doing it probably this wednesday

Ahhhh, the welding another bolt to it trick. One of my personal favorites and probably the only trick in my book that has never failed me...
