See ya later resonator.......4th gen hack job

About 2 month ago I had a Flowmaster spliced into my 4th gen. but kept the resonator. Now after reading the results of how some have successfully removed them I took the rig in yesterday. Had them cut out the resonator and put a simple angle cut crome tip out to the side just behind the mud flap. $20 cash, took 15min.. I was very surprised at what a postiive difference it made. Not only did the sound drop down a bit (could have been from the new angle of the exhaust) but it feels a little faster (we like faster) and no egg smell with the window down! I feel pretty stupid now for not cutting both the muffler and the resonator out at the same time?

If you plan on some custom exhaust other than the expensive toyota/borla system romove both muffler and resonator. The results were better than expected.

I was thinking of doing this. How is the sound on the v6 ? (have any clips?). Does it have any droning at certain speeds? When you punch it , can you hear the flowmaster, or just at less rpms....?

Details! hehe. Thanks

Did they add more pipe after they cut it, or just the angled tip?

I have been thinking about this for some time and would like to see the job they did on yours. If you have some pics it would be great. By the way what flowmaster did you use.

later and thanks

FWIW-
I have been running a magnaflow "turbo" (whatever that means ) aft cat with 2.25" piping all the way back into a 24" long 2.25" to 3" stainless tip for 6+ months now and love it. The smell is gone on my ride too. I think the muffler is about 10" long...

The smell comes from the resonator and not the Cat? Strange...

Sorry no pix yet - when you look at the start of the rez just imagin cutting it off there, added about an 8 inch exhaust pipe. The resonator sticked out so far it starts about the same distance as the mud flap( in just an inch or so). 3 inches go srtaight to clear the mud flap and the other 3 go out to the side. The bend is about an inch. The crome tip slid over a about 3 inches of the section shooting out. Just a crome slash cut nothing high $. Used the stock hanging location and added the hanger where the crome meets the plane pipe.

As for the sound ,sure you get that cool drone but that's what I wanted. I think it's a FM 60 series and sounds wicked when you get on it. Sorry, not sure what a clip sound is? It sounds cool just at seady RPM's. Per my 1st post the sound was better with out the Rez. I bet if you never had a rig with custom exhaust or wanted a quiet ride this mod would be a let down.

Hope this gives some a chance to feed the addiction!

The smell is from the cat, but with the resonator removed and the new pipe directing the exhaust in a different direction, it is not sucked into the vehicle.
So it appears to have gone away.

I've been running a 14" Magnaflow with no resonator and angled tips since Christmas, and I would never hesitate to encourage others to go the same route.
