Screeching Clutch!

When starting to move from a stop my clutch screeches. It sounds like I'm screeching the tires, I'm not. It happens the more gas I give it and the more I slip the clutch and the more weight I am hauling/towing. I can keep it from squeeling by driving consivertivly. I have 136k miles on the stock clutch. I would guess that I have gotten good life out of it. It does not slip when fully engauged even towing up the mountains.

I belive my clutch is worn out. Would you agree?

What Brand and Model is best?

It's less of a screech and more of howl.

Sounds like the throw out bearing is dry and getting ready to go, so yup:new clutch time. The friction parts of the clutch sound like they're still good, but as long as it has to come apart to replace the bearing, might as well throw a whole new clutch in. Don't forget to replace the pilot bearing (the little bearing inside the end of the crankshaft) as that can cause problems down the road. Good luck!

There are creamic clutch kits on ebay. My throw out bearing is also going bad, and I think I'll put one of those in mine.

Does it do it when you have the clutch pushed in fully at a stop?

Sounds like the clutch disk is down to the rivets. If that is the case, I would just go with an OEM clutch. There are others out there, but you can get the OEM set for a pretty good deal from Strap22 here on YT. Be sure to have that flywheel resurfaced or replaced. It probably has some grooves in it now.

My Centerforce Clutch makes that sound if I take off hard from a stop. But if I let it out normally there is no sound. My clutch is a centerforce dual friction and its still holds strong.

I run clutches till they die. I don't think this clutch is that old, maybe 2 years and 15,000 miles.

Hey, that's good to know Boaz, thanks! I'm installing that same clutch into my truck and don't have any experience with them, so now I kinda know what to expect. I've heard it's a good clutch, but it doesn't come with a throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, or alignment tool. I got the bearings from NAPA; they do look a little different from the stock ones, but they will work just fine. I've heard good things about Centerforce and Marlin clutches, and the OEM Toyota clutch seems to last quite a long time as well. Also, it wouldn't hurt to check under the dash to see if the clutch pedal bracket has started to crack in the upper left corner (common problem).
