I have seen a lot of rack setups with 3, even 4 mounts though.
That's right Thule calls them fake raingutters or something...
If you want to stick bigger loads up there I know some fibreglass canopies are built with pressed steel supports that go around the inside of the canopy.
Mine has two of those, and sadly some rather leaky holes in the roof
Apparently though you can actually get thick steel bars that you bolt to the bed of the truck and form a support inside the canopy. You then bolt the roofrack to these through the canopy.
