Runner is almost back on the road

I'm not sure how many of you guys knew it or not but my 4runner has been out of commision for almost 8 months now. I have been driving around this in the meantime.
was really fun in the snow as it is only 2 inches off the ground at most!
Well the money had finally been saved up (since im a poor college student it took a while) and I called around and found a machine shop that would rebuild the 3.0 for $1750 if I took it out and delivered it to them. A friend of the family, who happened to work at the machine shop i was going to take it to heard i was bringing it in and offered to do a side job and do the job start to finish for $ 2000. I took him up on the offer and dropped the yota off two weeks ago. He called me last night and I went to check it out. Here are some of the pics of the empty engine bay. The engine, unfortunately was already loaded up and ready to go off and be machined so i didnt get any pics of it
I should have the truck back in a couple of weeks and I cant wait. After that Im getting some new tires (32" BFG's) and fixing the saggy a$$!!!

I lost 3 quarts of oil in a week and the bottom end started knocking. Now that its torn apart we found the #6 rod baring is the culprit.

Engine Replacement Dread

I hope he gets your engine done soon. Lemme know what all he did when its all done. I have 202,000 and I am feeling the sluggishness of old age at times. Scares me a lil!

I have been using GTX 1030 with no additives since I got mine at 174,000 but wanted to know if you use any additives and how does your 3.0 sounds & feel?

The engine itself has never had additives put in it as far as I know. The truck was owned by an 80 yr. old man before I purchased it. I have used the Lucas Oils fuel injector cleaner. Seemed to help a little bit. I'm going to use some Throttlebody cleaner soon to help get rid of the gunk in there. The engine runs smooth and doesn't have an irradic idle at all. Starts every day with no clicking or tapping. Has never overheated (went on a 2 1/2 hour road trip through the TN mountains with no problems). I am disappointed in the amount of HP in it, but that's what everyone else complains about too. Right now I'm running a Toyota OEM oil filter and Mobil 1 synthetic oil in her. She likes that diet! my wallet on the other hand doesn't.

Oh and one more thing - I got 275MPG out of her once. That was only a couple of weeks ago. It's all about the pressure of that skinny pedal on the right! I average about 200-210MPG per tank.

I feel silly -

Dang man! I only get 140 miles on a full tank using supreme fuel. I suck!

275mpg? Now that's impressive. Do you use the fuel atomizer?

Nope, just barely take off and keep that throttle pedal barley pressed down. I was quite happy with the results, work on the other hand was pissed that I wouldn't make it there on time.

Oh yeah, I shift at 2000 RPM too.

I just told you the secret! lol. I'm not lying, I did clock 275Miles Per Tank with stock tires and the 5 speed. It's all in how you drive it! Also I have the pickup, which is lighter than the 4runner.
