Rough Start

Rough Start
Guys and Gals,
With my brother studying abroad, I've been driving his Avalon as my commuter. Thus I've only been driving the 4R on the wknds. I've just noticed that the starts are getting a little rougher than normal. It lacks that nice crisp start that it had when I drove it as my daily driver. On a couple of times it even failed to start the first time....
What should I look at/check/clean? Is my 4R getting back at me for not driving it everyday? I have no problem w/ my idle....just the start and only occasionally.
Rgr
On a brighter note...some of you might remember my pics of my wreck....well that whole ordeal finally came to an end today when I had my ticket dismissed. The judge excluded the officer's statements as hearsay, since there were no witnesses....the legal system does work Although it took way too much of my time

Hrmm...well it could be anything from battery to fuel injection.
Sometimes when the battery is nearing the end of its life this happens. It drains more quickly than usual, so when you drive it everyday and all the time, the alternator keeps recharging it. Let it sit for a bit/too long and the power drains.
You might want to pull out a couple sparkplugs and have a look to see if they are in proper order.
Does your model of 4Runner use the distributor or distributor-less ignition?

I have and have had my Son's S80 T6 for ~18 months. During that time we have only driven it occassionally to keep the tires round.
It was starting to run a little rough so we had to make a 400 mile round trip one day. It has a 21 gal tank so I put in two 12 oz bottles of Techron and we drove it. That night we left it outside. When we started it the next morning to move it into the garage it started quickly and idled smoothly again. I guess the fuel system just needed a good cleaning.

I agree with Ron. Add some Chevron Techron. It is some good stuff. It cleans out the entire fuel system. I add a bottle every oil change and it makes a heck of a difference. Check that out before you do anything major. That just might do the trick! Goodluck and keep us up to date on how you make out! :fireman:
