Rough Idle, rough acceleration at low RPM

So Where to start.. a year ago I got my 99 runner and fell in love. Soon as winter hits, my 4wd goes weird. Found a thread here. Changed cleaned sensors. Now wont engage at all. Just blinks all the time.
the battery went dead. Completely.
now. Cold start runs like a dream. Shut off. Start again. Rough idle like bad gas, never stalls. Then any acceleration under 2.5 rpm feels like a bumpy road. Then smooth. Check engine blinks. Stays on. Goes off completely while problem still persists. Changed coils. Problem got better. Only happened once after change next day, no problem accelerating. Now 5 days in. I can only drive 10 min before it starts doing it and wont stop unless parked overnight. HELP!!!! NEVER worked on foreign engines!!

That’s quite a list. Maybe collect your thoughts and list the problem(s) a bit clearer?

What engine and transmission are in your 4Runner?

The engine problem sounds engine temperature related.

What you need to do first is find out what codes are stored in the engine computer. The code(s) will give us and you a direction on where to look for the problem(s).

Do you have a basic scan tool / code reader? If not, usually you can take your truck to the local auto parts store and they can scan for codes for free.

I am not sure about the 4-Wheel Drive system on these 4Runners. I will admit that is one area I lack some knowledge.

no code on a reader.
it's a v6. Automatic
never stalls.
only problem is when it happens. Rough idle. Rough low rpm acceleration
it happens 10 min after driving. While driving.
it will at times let me drive 50 miles. Shut off. Then it happens on restart. It's also let me drive and stop shut off drive again. And not happen until the 3rd or 4th restart.

Most likely injector, I've seen 1 bad injector make the truck act like you have described, the difficult part is reading the code to find a consistent cylinder with the misfire. Seems to effect the new 98-02 4R's with the newer style injectors more than earlier models.

I found a mechanic today, an hour drive in a misfiring runner..... but its number 6 and there is no fuel getting to the plug. So he said either clogged injector or chewed wire. Problem. Husband doesnt know toyata. And the injector is $140. And this guy mentioned nothing about cleaning the injectors. Just replacing. And its 200 just to see if it needs to be replaced or wires. Soo. Not the easiest fix, but I appreciate your advice!!!

now how about 4wd... what do you know 🤣
I'm officially addicted to my runner.
