Roof Top Tent on 3rd Gen 4runner
I am getting a Roof Top Tent that I can run on my 80 series Land Cruiser and have a custom rack built that attached to the gutters.
Not my truck
Doing research a few people have said Thule Aero Towers or Yakima Q-Towers would help.
Here is my daughters truck (Thats my girl!)

I am buying the RTT for me for when I do the Rubicon this summer. I wanted her to be able to borrow it as well.
She is attached
That an IRBIS offroad bumper
Help relative to the roof rack would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello Romer, nice rig you have.
Check with this site, he should be able to tell you too what you need to mount it on both roofs.
I am getting one "maybe" for my FJ later this year.
What I like is it is sitting on the factory rack.
They offer two tents styles, with the cheaper one having an actual floor in it, but heavier.

Thanks for the link, thats the same tent I am looking at. Although there is a local dealer within my club so I won't have to worry about shipping.
Thanks for all your nice comments about my 80. I have to have a nice 80 since I am the 80 moderator on IH8MUD.
There was no camera work on that shot, don't recall the angle. Its on Fins and things at Moab.

Nice rigs you got there!!
I have had great luck with Yakima products in the past and will probably go the QTowers route when I upgrade the cross bars on my 4Runner. I had them on a volvo and an excursion and I never had a problem! The only thing is your going to have to measure how long the tent is and figure out where you are going to want to mount it. There are two options and you might find that having both is best. One set mounts to the factory roof rails and keeps things towards the rear of the vehicle and I believe there is also an option to have another cross bar between the front doors that would allow you to mount it more forward on the vehicle. Do you know anyone that is a yakima dealer? Honestly your best bet would be to take the measurements of the tent down to a Yakima dealer and talk it over with them and see what you can come up with. Have you PM'd XCMtn80? I'm sure he would be willing to help you out and get you what you need as he has been running that setup for a while now.
Might be some help...

Are you planning to put this on the 4runner? - not quite sure, well if you are then: i have had an eezi awn for the last 10 years and have put in on all of my runners (see sig below) and what you will find is that your roof will deflect on the rear portion of the stock rails causing the roof to make (popping noises) while driving on rough roads. IT gets annoying especially on long offroad trips like i make in baja quite often.
The roof can support the weight of them, but if your driving fast and long distance on rough roads you will feel, see, and hear the roof deflect, so much once that i thought that the rear quarter windows were gonna pop, but they didnt so i guess youll be ok.
I ended up making roof baskets for a couple my 4runners, and the other ones i made just platform racks out of 1" square steel tubing. Lets see if i can find a pic for you.

This is primarially for the 80 so I can do trails like the Rubithon. However, my daughter and her friends also like to go camping so I want to be able to install it on her 4runner. Looks like adding a 3 crossmember Yakima rack will be thr right answer, just need to get the right part numpers.
I also want it for her 4runner so when a few of us go, we have some extra room. On most trails that aren't to rough or we have a set camping spot we come back, to I bring this

I've lurked around ih8mud for a few years. Always admired your 80. Anyway, I am also in the market for a RTT and I think I am pretty much set on the Maggiolina unit. Simple set up, lot more sturdy, built-in mattress, ability to carry kayaks, bikes, etc. on top of the tent, etc.

Anyway, something to consider. I'm no help on the actual part numbers for the Thule or Yakima---sorry.
