Roof rack lights and sunroofs
If you have a sunroof, and the front of your roof rack starts behind it (so like halfway back on the roof of the truck), wouldn't rack mounted lights have half of their effective beam cut off from the roof of the truck?

I know I'm overthinking a really stupid point, but I'm bored at work today.

a driving beam would work- they're more pencil-like. while the fog pattern wouldn't do you any good up there. i've been thinking about putting some driving lights up on mine, exactly in the same place. just need the $ and time.

How about this item. It attaches where the sunroof wind deflector would attach. Hood scoop envy for a 2nd Gen...Interesting....

i didn't have any problems with my 94
even it doesn't have a sunroof, but the coleman busket was set so far back, way behind the normal sunroof location.

Man you gotta love that truck.
Let us know how you make out. I am debating lighting options also.

^Thanks
Reverend, you can check the link above to see pics of when I had my IPFs mounted on my Wilderness Rack.
At night, with the sunroof open and the lights on, it was like having a dome light w/ a 1000wt candle power . Anotherwords, it was super bright in the cab with the lights on the sunroof open.
You are correct though, as low as the garvin rack mounts to the roof, you do loose some downward light spead from rack mounted lights. The lights worked great for distance and anything taller than my truck, but were terrible to gain any visibilty close up. That's when bumper mounted lights come in handy.

However, I mounted my lights low on purpose...I wanted a low profile look. You may be able to retain some of the light spread by mounted the light brackets in reverse, thus making the lights themselves mount higher.
Check out Darren's 4Runner. This is the route he took w/ his garvin rack. Check out his site at: www.mycolorado.org - Now this is a truck

I have been playing with the idea of a golight between my windshield and sunroof.
I think I saw that you can mount more than 1 light and program them both to respond to the same remote.

I do have the hella 500 driving lights on the bumper already, and if I get a new bumper, they'll be installed on that too, so I guess driving lights on top wouldn't be too bad. If they are, I suppose I can always resell them.

Another option might be Lightforce lights - some of the models have an adjustable beam, similar to a mag light. They are litterally indestructible (had them on my h1 that I sold last year); come in all sizes too, from about 3" to the size of a dinner plate.
