yes, it was excessive. i was really shocked when my insurance was willing to cover it. they said if there was 17k worth of damage to the car, it would have been considered salvaged. but since it was 12k, they decided to repair it. when insurance is involved, its always best to have a dealer fix everything with oem parts so you get the best out of it.
by the way, did i mention that the service manager at Longo accused me of flooding the car??? which i didn't! they claimed they found a gallon of water in my engine. since it rained that week, he accused me of driving it into a flood. he told me i hydro locked the engine and that's what caused it to blow. the funny thing is, i never drove into a flood nor did it rain that hard. til this day, i still don't know what really happen. but in my honest opinion, it was the supercharger that blew it. anyway, since that's what they also told the insurance company, my insurance was willing to cover it without raising my premiums cause the damage was cause by an act of nature...meaning i wasn't at fault. since they were willing to pay, i didn't want to fight it so i just let the insurance handle it.

That really sucks dude, i would freak out if that happened to me, and then just be happy i have it fully covered.
If you decide to part it out, LMK right away, i want to know what you want for those tires.

I retract my previous statements.
Chances are you fried your motor due to pre-detonation caused by the supercharger (search URD or 7th injector and you'll see)
You were probably uninformed by toyota and it was not your fault. It is easy for people, including me, to place people that are uneducated about engines into one category.
In your case, what probably happened was that the mechanic found out the insurance company was paying and "adjusted" the price so that they could make some extra dough.

so I'm pretty interested in a black tacoma I saw online today -
1999 Tacoma LTD package
V-6 - 5spd,
101,000 miles
3" Skyjacker lift
cold air intake
A/R diamond lock aluminum wheels
31" yokahama's
it's the 2door with a cab thing (so four "seats" all together but two main doors. that probably doesn't make sense. what is the real name.?)
It has a rebuild title but looks really clean, was in a "light rollover" probably similar to mine.
they're asking 10,900 - how is that price? I'm going to try to talk him down but what do you guys think? I'm thinking of test driving it on friday. or just keep lookin

That depends on how bad you want it, I would check the blue book difference on a salvaged title for that truck and go from there. Reason being if you were to take this one wheeling and damage it your insurance company will give you very little for it. My 99 4Run with 104k was only $11k with a clean title. By the way did you drive it again since you got it back? Do the driver's side doors open?

Would you expect someone to drop 10,900 on your 4Runner? I think for a salvaged title that's WAY to much...who decides what is light when it comes to a roll over? I know you are bummed and want another rig but try to calm down and decide
A- Keep the Runner and DD/Trail rig it -or-
B- Be done with the 4Runner and spend your cash on something better than what you've got...c'mon a lightly rolled Taco, you are just inheriting someone else's problem. If you really want it offer him $5,000.

its called an extended cab, and if youve ever seen those pictures at carmax, body shops can do amazing things to mangled pieces of metal. besides, do you really want to buy another truck for that much $$ that has obviously been wheeled? search for an old lady driven something or another, that way you know it more than likely wasnt abused (or used as i like to think of it)

Do not pay that much for a salvaged anything. I wouldn't pay that much for a salvaged porshe, firrarri, etc. It will never ever be worth anything again. It has that type of title because the insurance company decided it wasn't worth repairing. If you buy it for that much, and then reck it you will only get the salvage ammount. When my house burnt down my moms car got totaled because the body was totaled. She bought it back for $200. thats all it was worth, now toyotas im sure are worth a little more, but it won't be even close to the 10k

Is the truck repaired? Was it done right? If the truck is still wrecked, 10k is too much. If it is repaired well it could be worth the 10k. There is a huge business in buying wrecked stuff, repairing and reselling them. True not worth as much as one with a good title. If it were me, I would drive it to make sure it drove well. Not sure if I would buy a hard roll repair. Things bend that you never know of.
I would fix your 4runner and drive it.

thanks guys - sounds like some good ideas and things to think about.
I had to run town though because of a family emergency. My stepdad who I've been really close to had a heart attack and passed away suddenly the other night. I'm here with my mom out of town. i'll keep you updated whenever things get sorted out sometime in the future with a rig/decision.
thanks for all the support and help, I really appreciate it.
