Resistors need replacing for heater
Does anyone know of any write-up on replacing the resistors for a heater in a 99 4 runner. The heat works, but only on HIGH, the other three options or fan option will not work. The dealer said they would do it, but that it would be easier for me to pick up the parts and do it myself due to labor costs. I agree, only problem being I dont know how to do it...so I would like to find out. Thanks!

Is this on a limited?
You will need to get a Haynes manual or similar so you have wiring diagrams to go by. Those will also be some pretty high watt value resistors since a decent amount of current goes through the blower.

you only need the resister block, its been awhile since Ive looked at mine but i think you have to take out your glove box, it will be mounted to a heat duct, you will only see the plug, the resisters are in the duct so that air moving through the system can cool them, its not hard to change, just hard to get to....

I have never dealt with this part in any of my cars, could someone possibly post a pic? I have a 3.4l 99 4 runner sr5.
I just want to make sure I buy the right part. "The mechanic said the resistors are bad and that is why your blower for the heat/air only works on high"
Now on the lower setting you can still feel a little air flow coming out, but very little...all three alternate settings blow out the amount of air I would expect to come from the lowest setting.
Thanks for all the help!

Holy cow! 30plus tax shipped from Conicelli parts as opposed to 117 plus tax from a dealer here in Ottawa. With the Canadian dollar up into the eighties, it makes it much more attractive.

I have a writeup with pictures for the repair on a 1st gen 4Runner on my web page:

The same basic steps apply to most Toyota vehicles.

Thanks!
Worked a deal with my dealership to get parts at cost...because they screwed me over on the purchase...got the part for 16 bucks...easy to install.
When I pulled out the old one it was literally fried, charred black and the circuits were all burnt up...part of the ceramic was actually cracked off the part and is still missing somewhere in the air lines.
Oh well..heat is working well now...and the wife is happy because her car is warm in the morning!
