replacing power antenna with regular antenna
Hi! My antenna is broken and I just want to replace with a regular one. I have a 1997 4Runner. Dont care about power antenna. Reception is only good when I move the broken one to a certain spot and tired of it!! I am getting ready to attempt putting in a new stereo because the cd changer in back broke. Can anyone help me with the broken antenna? Thanks!

Yeah there's been some people who have had success using the Tacoma "whip" antenna.

Its pretty straightforward.

Stock Toyota radio or an aftermarket one?
While you have the dash all taken apart you might want to combine the antenna signals into one-if you do replace with power antenna you can leave it down as I do now-the rear antenna does just fine except for long distance AM reception.
Rock Slide did a great thread to help out us 3rd gen Runner folks:

You might not need a whole new antenna if just the power mast itself is toast. Just throwing out options. You can extend the life of your new mast by never bringing it out of the hole with a toggle switch. Pics in my gallery on here or on my Facebook link. But the Rock Slide thread is loaded with info.

Hi there! Were you able to get a good answer to this? I would also like to just go to a regular antenna for my 4 runner. Thanks!

I bought a powered antenna from Autozone or RadioShack that went on the windshield inside of an old truck. It worked great..

+1 Easy, but you're supposed to remove it(easy...about 30 seconds) before going through a carwash.
Radio antennas are on my list of things that do not now, nor ever did, need to have a motor attached to it(special cases excepted, of course):
seats, windows, trunk lids, etc.
I'm writing this while standing at a motorized sit/stand desk.
