Replacing door lock actuator

I ordered a new drivers door lock actuator lastnight and decided to take the door panel off just to take a peek at how much work it was to get it out. It looks like you need to remove the window and window rail to get the actuator and latch assembly out. Has anyone ever done this before? Any tricks?

no its not necessary for the windows to be removed. you might need to unbolt the track for a bit for the removal of actuator. the actuator is attach to the latch, so you need to remove the whole unit.

to remove the latch, the two rods(ext handle and key) must be detach. you can figure out from there.

Need Door Acutator

Where did you find your replacement door actuator?

I have a 1999 4 Runner SR5 and the driver's side front power door lock will not lock or unlock using either the switch on the armrest or the keychain transmitter. It will lock manually by pushing down the button, and the key inserted in the door will also lock and unlock it.

The alarm arms and disarms just fine and the other 3 door locks work fine.

I think I need to replace the actuator, but I have no idea how much trouble or work I'm in for. I know how to remove the door panel, that's not a problem. I'm just wondering what to do next when I have it taken off.

Thanks,

Tom Thomas

Houston...

Yes, by all means, if you know of places in Houston that would have door actuators for a 1999 4 Runner SR 5, please let me know where.

Thanks,

Tom Thomas

Pictures?

Mike,

Did you happen to take any pictures you can post of the actuator replacement?

I know how to take the door panel off, what I need to see is where the actuator is located, how to remove the old one and what you need to do to connect a replacement.

Thanks,

Tom Thomas

sounds like the actuator is bad, in the user classifieds there is a guy who is parting out a 1999 4Runner, I got the drivers rear actuator from him. Deathcougar is his screen name, he may still have the drivers front.....

I hate to bring up an old thread, but my passenger side door lock has stopped working. Does anyone know if a 97 4Runner limited uses a special kind of door lock actuator or is it universal style? Anyone know any good online shops to buy them?
