I am searching for a 2002 Factory 4Runner Repair Manual. I called the distribution center and they told me it came in 2 Volumes and would be a total of $198.00. Any suggestions on where I can find the factory manual for a lot less? I checked ebay and didn't find anything!!!

 

Go here and register for $10. It gives you 24 hours of access, and you can download the whole FSM for your truck, including wiring diagrams and TSB's.

There's also quite a bit of free information here.

 

I can't say that I've seen anything cheaper, unless you luck out on eBay. Even at that, I'd still look into getting the Toyota FSM set (at $198). If you are planning to keep your truck for a long time, it will be one of the best investments you can make on it! IMO the Toyota manuals are THE BEST ones that you'll ever find about your vehicle, with great diagrams, pictures, step-by-step procedures, and incredible trouble-shooting information.

I have a 1990 SR5 V-6 X-tra cab Pick Up, and the FSM was the first thing I bought for it, a couple of weeks after I got it in '91. I think it cost me about $120 or so, but it was money well spent! I'm now planning on doing a 3.4 mod, and when I find a good donor Taco, I'll get the year specific manuals for it, too - that's how much I appreciate having them around!

Yes, the factory manuals are expensive, but I really don't mind when I see the wealth of information in them, and the fact that they read easily when you're doing a project or repair (some FSMs that I've seen from other companies might as well have been written in Swahili, when it comes to trying to follow what they are telling you!)

Just my $.02 worth about having the Toyota FSM around.

 

i bought them for ~ that.

the way i see it i can save at least that much in my first major wrenching job (say a timeing belt change)

they are well worth the $$ IMHO

 

Where'd you get 'em? Anyone sell the factory manual on-line? I'd like to find one for the 2000 4Runner... The book will pay for itself rather quickly. I like the Haynes manual for easy job and torque specs, so it's $15 well spent in most cases.

 

The first link I posted above is a link to the Toyota Technical Information System. What you download on there (for your $10 24-hour membership) is the factory service manual. The same thing you get when you buy the paper copy, except that it's electronic. It takes 8 to 10 hours to download and organize all the files, but it saved me $200. It has been very helpful so far.
