Removing Oil Pan
I've searched. I know what to take out to get to the pan. I've taken out all the 20 bolts, etc...
The damn thing won't budge. I've hit it, tried to pry it... How the HECK do you get it OFF the engine block. I know its got a sealant on it. I just can't get it loose.
Are there any tricks?
All the things I've read don't even mention the fact that its sealed on there.

You might want to try heating up the seal with a blow dryer and that may help things expand some and come loose a little bit easier. Also, if you are going to hit the oil pan, wack it with a heavy rubber mallet. Yet try to be carefull not to hit it too hard to bend or warp the pan.

i have had a hell of a time removing oil pans in the past. the cork gasket does not help at all. but i would say get a thinner putty knife and if you can tap it with a hammer on the gasket and work your way around the pan and see if that breaks it loose.
good luck
good luck

Thanks guys!!
I just wanted to make sure that this is indeed a weird thing, and I wasn't doing something obviously wrong. I couldn't figure out why the thing is stuck on there so tight!!

Thinking back: I just remember how many times i hear of trans pans leaking (after dropping the pan). Usually, the seal was not carefully installed and/or the prep surface was not perfectly clean....It would be my luck that I would damage the pan...and have a leak....
just my 1 cent

Well, I got it off in like 1 minute. I just took a metal paint scraper/spackle spreader to the front of it, and just worked my way around. Came off.
Now its too late to put it back on. So I cleaned it really nicely, and tomorrow morning will go back on.
BTW - I just took off the oil-pickup rather than drop the diff. It worked fine. Now the thing is that I will need to put the sealant on underneath the truck... I don't think it will be a problem though.
