Recommendations in SoCal, Inland Empire
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated right now. I did a compression test over the weekend and found all of my cylinders to be low, however #6 was extremely low measuring in at 30 - 45psi depending on engine temp. Base range for cylinders 1-5 was between 135 and 131psi. My truck, '91 Pick Up v6 3vze 5spd 4x4 std cab that has 250,985 miles on it needs some work beyond my scope.
I'm thinking a valve job right now and I don't know of any good shops. I called the stealership and verified that the head gasket was already taken care of. The slealership quoted me at minimum $1750 for the valve job including all parts. They describe it to me as basically a top end rebuild. The shops in the Phone book have been quoting out prices of 650 to 850. However do to transportation I need to take the vehicle in and have them go start to finidh. I can't remove the heads and carrying them in. I'm SOL on this one. I hoping for some shop in SoCal around the Riverside/Moreno Valley area.
Background:
Bought her used (thought it was a killer deal but after this repair maybe not). I replaced the the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, pcv valve, oil change, alignment and idler arm. She was still running rough and low gas mileage so I adjusted the idle, tested the tps, maf, and seafoamed the engine, cleaned out the TB. All test came back good, minus CEl (o2 sensor). Replaced the o2 sensor, and the truck is still idling a little harsh. Compression test and dollar bill test - the dollar never sucked in but would go flat every so often: pop pop pop (nothing) pop in a way. Cylinder #6 is bad.
So should I look at the valve job if the price is reasonable, or a rebuild engine for only a little more? Or (please tell me there is more) did I miss a test or mis-diagnose something?
Sorry so long.

Hey Morph, I'll check around out here in the San Fernando Valley for you. There are a couple decent little shops that work only on Toys. If worse comes to worse, there is a Toyota Dismantler in North Hollywood, on Hart St. http://www.toyopartsonly.com. They do mechanical repair, engine and tranny installion and some body work I believe. The number is 818-765-0322.

Again drkgypsy coming through. Thanks I'll look into that. The truck still drives ok, but I've found some rebuilds for $1095 installed. Decisions decisions.
Thanks

there is a toyota certified mechanic in chino. he used to work as a master technician at the dealership and has over 20 years of experience. i've been going to him and he's been awesome. he's an honest guy too. after he's done work, sometimes he won't let me pay for the work until i've been driving the truck for maybe a week and we are positive the problem is gone. great guy and a great mechanic. his name is danny and his shop is called tri auto. here is the number to his shop: 909 465 6422. his shop is in chino off central on g street between chino ave and shaffer. good luck to ya.

Thanks for the info
I will definitely keep that number handy. I've decided to tear apart the top end my self, carry in the heads and then piece it back together again. I'm no mechanic but this will be a good way for me to learn (maybe a career change?) I wont let this yota die on me so what ever it takes I'll get her going again.
Thanks again everyone
