rebuild 5000

no get on ebay and buy a master rebuild kit, i think they are only 5 or 6 hundred at most fot the complete kit. then take the kit to a mechanic and just pay labor. that should save you a large part of the cost

damn 5k! for a rebuild? are they rebuilding it using gold internals?
a brand new engine from a dealership only averages 7-10k!!! and thats with labor too, dealerships always charge way too much on labor....
i would just get the master rebuild kits, and have the block and all magnafluxed/machined/honed and you would still end out on top.... 5k! for a rebuild is jsut insane!

They're both expensive, but they claim to get you some extra horsepower along the way. Keep us posted on what you do.
