Rear Suspension Safety Recall Follow-up
I just got a notice in the mail yesterday about the 3rd gen Rear Suspension Saftey recall. Is anyone familiar with this. What exactly are they replacing? How long has this been around?

You get new springs that are a bit taller (I believe) and new rubber cone inserts for inside the springs. Made a big difference on my ride. No more harsh bottoming out when going over dips in the road.

Thanks mjwalfredo,
I was going to replace those myself, but the 2 inch lift solved that problem. Since it is a free replcement I guess I'll be doing that as well.

Ive never gotten any notices from recalls but looking at the DMV site there seems to be one or 2 for my 2001. Do I just call the dealer I got the truck from even if its out of warranty? TIA

edit: this is what i found on the dmv site:
even though it was a long time ago, can i still call up and ask to set up an appointment to fix this free of charge?

yes. you can still get this done even if you are out of warranty (almost all of us are)
i was going to have it done, but the dealer didnt have the parts in stock when they said they did. i took my truck back to never take it to that dealer again. i replaced the recall components anyway when i lifted.
as i understood it, the recall was a change in the bumpstops for the rear axle, replacing with shorter ones, so there would be more body roll in crash avoidance, but it would not force the axle onto one tire. AFAIK thats all that was to be replaced.

I believe your '01 runner already has the updated suspension parts. It has been a long while since I had my recall done but if I remember correctly, only the 97-98 years were affected.
