Rear Oil Seal Leak??
Hey, has anyone had to have a rear oil seal replaced on their 2nd gen truck?? I am curious if you know if it was the one that goes in the housing or the "outer" seal in with the bearing?? The "inner" is easy as pie.. The outer, my locak Toyota dealer does not even have that special SST press tool to do the job, I know about the "drop her down to R&I the brake assy. But how do I "press" the shaft back in?? I really hope it is just the seal in the housing.. I have also broke down and bought rear brake shoes.. Gee, mine only have 140+ on them But now they have been fully soaked with 90wt. I guess I gotta get into it this week..

Lee,
I did mine almost 4 years ago, but here is what I recall. The outer seal simply pulls out of the axle housing with a seal puller when removing it. To install, it can be tapped in with a block of wood and mallet.
The inner seal is the one that slips onto the axle shaft, right? That one was assembled by the dealer when they pressed in a new bearing for me. This one is impossible to do by hand.
Hope this helps.
