Rear Heat
Hey Y'all,
Just bought a '95 2nd gen. and already think it's a pretty sweet truck - actually I bought it for my daughter...
Did a little exploring last night as the rear heat doesn't work...found the tubing to be completely? stopped up - I have an oil change rig for my boat that draws a vacuum and thus pulls the oil out of the dip stick hole (if you have a boat, you know) anyway, I took both tubes loose from where they "T" up near the firewall and drew a vacuum on it...nope clogged up solid it seems...
Anyone have similar problems - I'm thinkin' (here I go thinkin' again) maybe the fix is to just run in new rubber tubes from the "T" along down under the body to where they run up thru to the heater (this assumes the heater core isn't plugged up and/or can be cleared if it is...)
Any thoughts?

I would think it's more likely that the heater core is plugged than the lines. I would try reverse flushing the core. Another possibility is the temp control lever has come disconnected from the valve, and the valve isn't actually opening.
I did read somewhere years ago about problems with the rear heaters getting plugged up if the control valve was closed for too long. Something about no circulation through the core. So when you get it working again keep the temp control at hot all the time. You won't get any heat coming out without the fan going so it's not a problem even in summer.

Hey Eric,
My next test is to break the hoses loose under the truck and see if the core is plugged...the valve arm is directly connected to the control lever and moves freely...I'll see what's up once I break the hoses loose under the truck...
