rear drive shaft woes
I am damn near complete with my SAS on my 02 tacoma, and as I went for a little test drive after replacing the brake master cylinder with a larger one, my rear drive shaft came out of the yoke. I am using 3.5" rear blocks with the stock toy rear axle. The yoke came out of the splined shaft as soon as I gave it some gas, so the axle wrap must have been bad enough to cause it to come out. Now, when I put the yoke and the shaft next to each other, the shaft is only going into the yoke about 3/4". Of all of the writeups I've read on SAS's, I've never seen anyone having to replace their rear driveshaft. Because my rear is sitting about 1-2" too high, I could cut the blocks down (I would love to b/c I hate lift blocks with a passion) but after doing the math, I would only create around 1/2" of extra drive shaft length in the yoke. I can't think of what I"m doing wrong. I don't have the money for a new rear drive shaft, but I need to get this going because I"ve been without my truck for a week now. What do you think about getting the rear drive shaft lengthened? anyway, thanks.

Axle wrap tips the pinion up, not down, could have been backing off the gas popped the slip yoke out. Is your driveshaft a 1-piece or 2-piece (center support bearing) type? If the latter, do your blocks have a bevel to them to tip the pinion up for the proper shaft alignment? If not, that will help a little. Its not terribly expensive to have a shaft lengthened, check with your local driveshaft shop. Also consider having it re-tubed with heavier wall stock. The OEM tubing is not up to a lot of trail abuse.
