Rear diff. leak?

Okay,

Well, the last few weeks Ive noticed an interesting smell coming from my drivers side REAR tire.

So I take a look inside, and I see a bunch of goopy/oily residue on the inside of my rim.

My first thought was: "Busted wheel cylinder". I called up a mechanic and asked him and told him what happend.

He said that its a possiblity that my differential is leaking, because I have no loss in breaking, that would be caused by a busted/leaking cylinder.

So is this a common problem or what? I have not heard of this before, and wanted to know what you think I should do. It sounds like something I might just wnat to get fixed. What causes this? Is this what the differential breather MOD is for?

Hmmmmmmm.......not sure. The diff oil is fairly liquidy. The breather mod is so you don't take water in to the diff during deep water crossings.

Take some pics.

Your axle seal is leaking...seems to be common on 3rd gens. Try a search and you'll find lots of info about it.
