I didn't ever say it would be easy, or perfect. My original point was that I would really like to be able to create something myself and call it my own. Buying things off the shelf is often the best and least expensive way to acquire things, but sometimes it isn't.

Will I ever buy a welder and build my own? I really don't know, but I'd like to think that someday I'll have the time, location, and ability to accomplish my goal.

Bruce, Thank you for the offer. After checking your link, I was wanted to build my bumper to include aspects of your design and appearance, so I sent Jason a picture of your bumper with the link. As you meantioned, Jason was familiar with your bumper and has incorporate some of your design features. Since I live 5 hours north of the Demello shop, I haven't seen what features he has included, but will post pics when I get the bumper installed in a couple weeks.

sweet.

i just called rockware. they don't have a jig or donor rig, so it's not an option for me since that means they'd have to have my rig to fab it on.

however, he said i COULD buy just the tire carrier w/ hinge setup and latch from him. it would be $400-$500, and would be ready to weld to whatever aftermarket bumper I went w/. sounds like it might be an option to "add on" to a locally made one.

The only poin to my comment was that it takes skill to pull this off. I do not know anything about anyone else's abiltites, just that a welder and a desire for a bumper is only part of the equation.
I am having a bumper built right now loosely based on BruceTS's. I could not fabricate such a complex piece, like Bruce, so I will pay for it . Oh well, at least it will be quality.
This site and all the members have been invaluable, so thanks.
