rear brake ?

I have fairly stock(is removed & deckplate mod) 1996 4runner limited , my problem is the rear driver side drum seems to lock-up . I can overpower with the engine but as soon as the brakes are applied it locks up again. Jacked the rear end up and removed the tire, there is brake shavings(not dust) inside the drum. What should i look for ? Seized cable or brake piston? Any help would be appreciated.

Might be a bad piston, try cleaning every thing up with some brake cleaner and grease up some the parts that need it.

Is it when u pull the parking brake or when u push on the brake pedal or both?

Here's the funny part, first noticed it after i used the e-brake, but then after that it has been every time the brakes have been applied. I got the yota about 2 months ago, so i don't know the last time the e-brake was used if at all, before i used it.

go behind the drum and see if the ebrake hardware is stuck, or how much it moves when you pull the ebrake inside, if you pull up the handle and the e-brake engages, good, but if when releasing handle you dont see the rear arm move much, bad, thats what mine does anyway, i just dont use the ebrake so far, and go under with a screwdriver and a hammer anytime it is accidentaly engaged

I had a similar problem with my '02. The bellcrank, where the e-brake attaches, was frozen due to minor corrosion. WD40 loosened the bell crank up for a bit, but the drivers side was not as loose as the passenger. When it froze the second time I pulled the drum and removed the bellcrank and sanded the corrosion off, regreased and reinstalled. Only took about 30 or so minutes to fix. Not sure if its the same issue as yours, mine was locking up only after the e-brake was applied, not all the time.

Has anyone done a read disc brake swap from a rear disc 4runner? I really hate these rear brakes. Mine has no anti-lock and a load sensing proportioning valve. I think I might need to add an adjustable proportioning valve just in case the physics are wrong.
