Pretty sure he means the intake tube which attaches to the throttle body and the MAF at either end.

You may have to remove the intake tube ONLY if you have headers. If you have the stock exhaust manifolds, you will not need to remove it.

Be prepared to make the "special" face when trying to remove the starter.

is it completely nes. to remove the collector and it's heat sheild? I've got myself inna tight spot....one of the 10mm nuts on the heat sheild WON"t budge!

im thinking maybe....just maybe I can drop the starter down w. o having to remove that? yer thoughts?

that damn TOP bolt that holds the starter in is a MF! Been on that one for like 20 minutes!

With the stock manifolds, you shouldn't have to remove the collector. There are two 14mm bolts that secure the starter to the bell housing. Then a 12mm nut holding the battery cable to the starter. When you loosen those, rotate it about 90° and remove the starter switch harness.

Ok....got that - but...HOW does the starter come OUT....up? can't seem to get it out!!!! Down...no room....to the side....no room....
now, here's the prob....I"m trying to get the collector off....and....where the collector hooks to the down pipe....2 came off as JUST bolt (from the studs) and one came out WITH the stud....now....i've got to find a REVERSE star socket to get the other studs out....then I'll be able to get the collector off HELP....! Ideas?

Starter Removal

I took mine out last week and had the same problem with removing the two bolts. Had to get some long extentions that have "wobble" ends so that you can get to them. Had to remove the transmission dip stick and move the brake line to get it out the wheel well. It was difficult to do but it will come out this way without removing the exhaust.

Hey Alan....I think you should change some things on the write-up.

Step 13 is n/a for peeps w/ stock manifold
(hence me being a dork and unbolting the manifold from the block! DOH!)
(You notated after step 10 to go to step 13 if your mani is stock...should be 14)

Step 15 - you should not that you'll need someone to help you hold the brake line up and out of the way....and notate that the starter comes out of the fender well.

I was stupid...thought the manifold needed to come off and the starter come out from the top...I'm thinking for boneheads like me a little clarification would help out! By myself, I just couldn't concieve HOW the starer was going to fit out the wheel well....with help....I made it happen!

Now...anyone know the proper torque on the exhaust manifold? and is there a tightening order to the bolts?

pwweee....whata day!
