Question about a wax to revive oxidized paint

My buddy has a tacoma with the clear coat coming off.....as many of us do.
Some guy offered to revive his paint for 40 bucks.
He rubbed an oil based something on the car which masked the clear coat issues.
It also cleared up his foggy headlight lenses.
Any ideas what it was? Brake fluid? I heard it clears up lenses.

I wonder if it was Off or Repel w/ 40% DEET.

Not sure about the paint side of things, but any bug spray with at least 40% DEET ( Repel MAX from Wally World is what I used, and cheap, too ! ) will clear up foggy headlight covers for plastic.

There's a bunch of You Tube videos, so I tried it - it works !

However, the '00 Runner has glass covers so no need, and no clue about on the paint.

HTH !

Your best bet is going to be a rubbing compound on buffing wheel. Cut the top layer of clear. After that use polishing compound on new pad, then 2 coats of wax. You'll have a new truck

A member on here with a nice red 1st gen 4Runner (can't recall who) used TR-3 Resin Glaze on his faded paint and it looks new. I just found out the black on my 2000 4Runner is single stage so I'm thinking of trying it. Here's the Amazon listing. Read some of the reviews:
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Magic-TR...&keywords=tr-3

ETA: I think it's RAD4Runner who used the stuff. His thread is worth reading anyway:

I don't know what he used but it was probably not brake fluid.

Do NOT use brake fluid!!!! Brake fluid eats paint and will likely strip the paint from the metal better than most chemical paint strippers.

It was definitely not a wax, but an oil because trail dirt has stuck to his truck like glue. I was just wondering what cheap household product someone found to bamboozle people.
