Question Question about rim width.

Hey all,

Probably a dumb question, but here goes. I'm going to be getting some rims soon. I'd like to put some 31x10.5 rims on my 2wd 4runner. How wide should my rims be to accommodate 10.5" wide tires? If I get another 4runner that is a 4x4, I'd probably put the rims on it and get some 32 or 33x11.5 tires. Can I use the same rim for 11.5 tires?

Thanks all.
Have fun.

It's more of a personal preference! I have 15/10 on 32/11.5. I would either go with 15/8 or 15/10. If you plan on going bigger than 11.5 i'd go with 15/10 to accomadate the wider tires. Some tire makers will recommend a rim size for their tires.

u can look at the site in my sig to see some pics with my rims with the 31's and the 32's

rims

I've got 32 x 11.5 BFG MTs on the stock SR5 alloy rims which are only 7" wide right now. They work great, plus there's less of a chance of blowing a bead when aired down with the tighter rims.

I'd go to 8" or higher for the 12.5" wide tires.

Thanks you all! Hard decision. Maybe it'll come down to price difference. I dunno. I know I'd go at least 8" wide.

Casey--Great looking rims/tires! Did you use spacers?

Skydigger--Are the rims you're talking about the 6 spoke or the 4 spoke SR5 rims?

So, when looking for tires, do I need to check to see what rim width it will fit on? Or, does one size fit all?

Thanks again. Have fun.

I am running 15X8's with my 31X10.50's and it looks way better than the 7" rims.
