Question about ISR mod on 3.0
I am considering doing the isr mod on my 94 runner with a 3.0. I did a search and some of you all talked about the intake being louder. How much louder is it, and does the increased noise really bother you? Thanks for any responses

It's not loud at all, that is, unless you are standing outside of the vehicle and/or are gunning it, as is the experience with mine.
Now, I can hear it with the window down, sitting at a stop with the window down alone (no other vehicles around), but when I really hear it is when I step on it as it is able to suck in more air without all of the restrictions in the way..., this is what I think people mean when they say it is "louder".

I just did mine and it was a bit loud...sometimes. Here's what I mean>> After doing the ISR mod, I noticed:
1) A hissing noise coming from the air-filter box (Yup, checked all the vacuum hoses, seems okay)
2) I took off that little box next to air filter and connected the two hoses that were stuck to it. Now, at idle, it makes a low-pitched grumbling noise. Sounds mean, but gets irritating after a while. I'm thinking about putting that box back on so that it will get a bit quieter at idle. (I want it loud at WOT not while sitting at the traffic light).
Is this normal? From what I read, it's not. If someone can give a tip, it can help me and may be useful to msuguy44 should he come across this.
Oh, BTW, here's a pic of my mod:

I left that little box off at first as well. But when the AIR system opens up you get a really annoying sound from those hoses. So I put the box back in the truck and put a breather on the hose that used to go to the stock airbox. I'm running an open element air filter as well. That little box is a silencer and it does it's job well.

I drilled two 2" holes in the bottom part of the airbox and nothing more. Sounds the same at idle and on light accelleration, but it noticeably louder when pedal down. It's not annoying, but I wouldn't describe it as pleasant tone either. No noticeable difference in performance that I can see.
