Purchasing 3rd gen soon, what mod's should i do?
Hey people of Yotatech,
its almost time to sell the 2nd gen and purchase the 3rd gen. Making a switch from 3.0 to 3.4 sounds like a major leap in power and economy; don't you think? Right now, I have my eye on a 2001 4runner SR5, 135k, and its going for 16 grand(CDN). Sound like a steal?
Now I need some help from you guys to make that powerful 3.4, work at its reasonable best, without breaking the wallet Here is the list of mods/replacements that I have in my head right now:
1. Deckplate mod/ISR or Elbow mod/ISR (whichever you think is best)
2. Replace spark plugs
3. Clean TB
4. New exhaust; maybe
5. Change fuel filter
6. Fuel system cleaner
7. Add water-wetter
8. Change engine-oil to synthetic
9. Replace air-filter with a more free-flowing one
10. Adjust throttle-cable
So, is there anything else I should add to complete my full-tune up?

1. Deckplate mod/ISR or Elbow mod/ISR (whichever you think is best) I'm not as big a fan of the ISR
2. Replace spark plugs OEM only!!!
3. Clean TB definately
4. New exhaust; maybe may help a bit
5. Change fuel filter definately
6. Fuel system cleaner definately.....run for a tank before you change filter
7. Add water-wetter may help.....more important just to change coolant
8. Change engine-oil to synthetic not a must
9. Replace air-filter with a more free-flowing one Amsoil !!!
10. Adjust throttle-cable don't bother....just clean the TB, shouldn't ever need adjustment
11. Pull tranny pan and clean fliter screen and replace fluid
12. Change Diff and transfer case fluids
So, is there anything else I should add to complete my full-tune up?
Hope this helps.

If its 135k MILES, then I would consider T-belt/water pump, if its 135k Kilo's then I would check out the belt to see what it looks like and then prolly end up putting the cover back on and not worrying about it for a while.
Other things to consider (that MTL didn't mention):
1) NGK wires (and plugs)
2) MAF cleaning
3) brake/P.S. fluid flush (which many people neglect)
4) new Denso o2 sensor (precat only)
5) clean out IACV
6) check drive belt conditions
Other than that, I am with MTL all the way (accept I do like the ISR/Elbow removal)
