Proper way to adjust the idle on my 3.0 V6?
My idle is to low (500 rpm's in drive) and its driving me crazy. How do I properly bump it up to 800? I know where the adjusting screw is but which way do I turn it and any other tips would be appreciated. ben

I'll give you some help since I've played with mine about a billion times.
Make sure the vehicle is at the regular operating temperature. Just take it for a good drive (10-15 minutes) and that'll be enough time for everything to get warm. Anyways, this is something that you can't mess up so don't worry about it. The screw should be turned counter-clockwise to raise your idle speed. Stock specs call for 800 rpms at idle in park. I like to set mine just a hair higher than that. Adjust as you see fit.
That's really all there is to it.

Adjusted but is that correct?
ok I just adjusted the idle from 500 rpm's in park up to 800 rpm's in park. When I put it in gear it drops down to 600 rpm's. that is where it's at in adjustment. Well I took my rig out for a spin and it seem's sluggish compared to the previous setting and there is a little bit of engine ping.

I have a similar problem with my 98 4runner. Does anyone know how I can adjust the idle on my 98? I have a Supercharger in case that matters. Thanks for any advice.

If you keep that haynes manual as a bible then you've got other problems. I don't trust it much and neither should you. I've found multiple problems with the Haynes Manuals in the past to know that they aren't always correct.
Anyhow, that's how you adjust your idle. Try it and you will see. It's pointless to adjust your idle with the vehicle cold because it idles high anyways.
