Propane aybody?

I saw something that was either on Trucks or Horsepower on Spike where they injected propane into the air intake similar to some people's NOS systems. It kicked on when the throttle was over a certain percentage open. It was pretty tight.

i mean why would it be difficult to set up propane and keep your gasoline on an efi motor?
why wouldnt a simple setup such as this work:
tank, line to intake, proper propane pressure.
switches to turn off fuel pump/injectors, and drive...?
anyone have pictures of a homemade setup.?

Im not sure if vehicles are different but, forklifts run off liquid propane. However, there are certain machines that are designed to run off only the vapor. So this might make a difference on what you'de need also.

Here's a good plus and minus on all the types of available fuels you could run on.

The biggest one to note about propane is that it has about 70 percent the energy that gasoline does (but it is still higher than ethanol) per gallon and this will have two effects. The first is you obviously burn more fuel to go the same distance and second since you burn more fuel your range between fillups will go down.

to clear something up, its not really that you burn more fuel to go a certain distance, but you will burn more fuel to do the same amount of work assuming the workload, and losses are the same as they would be with a gasoline fuel.
so why couldnt you run a IC engine off of propane gas? enough volume flow rate to accomplish the needed a/f ration and it should work. the only problem would be finding that rate, and being able to supply it, assuming it is high enough.

anyone?
propane from blue rhino?
youd probably just need a lot of it...
i actually just figured out that propane has just under 75% of the internal energy of gasoline. this means that for 3 gallons of gas, youll ned 4 of propane.
my mpg for gas is ~20, so basically i could get 15mpg with propane.
blue rhino tanks are 17lbs, which is right at 4 gallons. meaning that id go ~60 miles on one tank that costs about 10$ i believe. basically the price of gas but that much cooler.
hmmm. maybe ill try it on our baja car or my crf 50.

Anyone know if the propane kits will burn natural gas too?

The tank fit across the bed, probably 4' long and 2' diameter. Natural gas would need a bigger orifice on the carb as it is less dense. Plus you need higher pressure tanks and regulators.
