Problem with cold start
I just picked up a 1996 4runner a couple of months ago and lately when its really cold I have noticed that there is an issue with it starting. When I first turn the key the engine makes a crunching noise. However it always starts fine on the second try. This only happens when it is really cold and has been outside for a while < 10 degrees. I have a video of the sound. I am trying to do more work on the car myself so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!

starter engages, but either isn't getting enough amps to turn over or the oil may be too thick. May be worth checking all the battery connections including at the starter. It may just be something you have to deal with till it warms up. Maybe pull the starter and check the contacts.
You may be just chasing your tail on this though.
