Price check on a '84 4Runner
There is a '84 4WD 5Spd for sale in town and the guy is asking $4500 for it. I test drove it and it rides and everything about it is smooth and great. Has a custom lift with bigger tires...forgot the size...front bush guard, 22E was rebuilt 30K ago, differentials to match the bigger size tires the gentlemen said, new Toyota carb, interior is great and the paint job is less then a year old. Everything works, AC, Heater, new cdplayer and speakers, Tires, Brakes, Clutch, Master cylinder, radiator and sailed through smog. Receipts and all....Wondering if this would be a good deal or is he asking a little too much....Anyone??? Thanks!

At first glance, i thought it was a little high but after reading everything you said, it sounds like the owner put more than $4,500 into it without adding in the labor. If you were to replace everything he did then your talking at least a couple grand if not more. IMO its worth $4,500..But it depends on what you want it for too....

What they said. $4500 is a little on the high side but not unreasonably so. If it is as good a condition as it sounds, it is probably worth his asking price (but try to talk him down anyway). The lack of EFI ('84 is the only carbed year) is a definate drawback though. An '85 in equal condition/price would be a far better deal. When I was looking for my '85 a few years back, one guy had one listed for $4000. When I saw it, the windshield was broken (looked like someones head tried to go through), it was literally falling apart by rust, it smoked badly, back window didn't work at all, and above all, it had IFS! Sometimes what sounds like a deal doesn't work out that way once you see it When it comes down to it, what is it worth to you? Since you're the one with the checkbook, that's all that really matters.
