Power Door Lock Problem
Ok, First post here....using the GFs logon. I'm an FZJ80 guy and spend most of my time on IH8MUD but both the GF and my sister drive 4runners and I am the wrench so here's the question to throw out there to you all in 4skinner land while I do a search of your archives.
My sister's 4runner (2000 Limited) with the factory alarm system has an issue with the power locks. The doors do not lock when the lock button is pushed from inside the vehicle, the key in the door, or the key fob. The only way they lock is to push the buttons manually on each door. When the key fob lock button is pushed a relay does click (alarm/keyless entry I assume) but when using the key in the door only the door that the key is in will lock...no relay sound at all. Also no relay sound when the lock button is pushed....just pure silence. The doors do UN-lock by all three methods as usual without any problems.
I began diagnosis by checking the lock switches in both the driver and front passenger doors. I checked the power lock/unlock switch as outlined in the service manual and both switches operate as specified. Next I checked the lock sensor switch that is actually connected to the bottom of each manual door button deep inside the door (pain in the ass to disconnect)...but both of these switched functioned as specified also. I ran out of time but plan to check these sensor switches in the rear doors and rear hatch also. If this fails to find a faulty switch I will attempt to locate the alarm/keyless entry system and look at possible faults there. I should also mention that I checked the fuse and power source for the PDLs but both are in great shape.
Any ideas and/or possible solutions/resolutions would be greatly appreciated!
Thnx in Advance!
