power antenna relay?

Has anyone actually had one go bad? When I bought my 4runner it had part of a broken mast in it and the motor was unplugged. Being a prior 3rd gen 4runner owner I knew of the horrors of the broken mast, so, I took the motor apart, took the old mast out, plugged the motor back in and everything seemed to work fine, motor ran an appropriate amount of time, etc.

Fast forward, I finally got a new mast, installed it after much trial and tribulation. It seems that either something is jacked in the motor or the relay/HU is jacked. When I turn the radio on the relay clicks, antenna starts going up for about 2 seconds and then the relay clicks again and it slightly (maybe 1") retracts the antenna it just extended, then it stays there, turn the radio off and it is fully retracted.

The relay is definitely clicking on and off in a really wierd fashion, something it didn't do prior to installing the new mast. So, is the mast jamming inside the motor and the antenna motor is causing the relay to stop and retract (like an auto-non self destruct feature or something)? Or is the relay just jacked? Could it be a grounding issue of some sort?
