Hey Milan. You can use my numbers, but I have the 2.7. It probably revs higher and works harder but I'm glad to know the oil is good after 6 months. Can you see anything to indicate the BG44 and carb cleaner I used? If stuff is in there, I'd like to change the oil. Thanks.

Hey Butnut, thanks for the clarification. I don't see any indication of the BG44K or the TB clean, but I'm not sure if I would be able to recognize it. The only thing I do notice is how much thicker your oil has become compared to it's original viscosity. It's currently 15.98 @ 100˚C and originally it was 11.3 @ 100˚C (according to Amsoil's site) so it is getting a bit thick and may indicate it needs to be changed. It's present viscosity is actually thicker than Amsoil's 0W-40 oil. So if it was me I would change it. But that's JMO.

just got my oil report from blackstone (oil was amsoil series 2000 0w30 ran for 6 months):

EUGENE: The TBN for your used oil was 8.7, so you have hardly touched the active additive in the oil running it 3,453 miles in your Toyota engine. The viscosity was a little high, reading up in the range we would expecct for a 10w40 oil. There was no harmful contamination in your oil that would explain the high viscosity. Copper was high in comparison to the other metals, but was not necessarily high enough to show a problem. It should read at 2ppm in this sample. We will watch this metal for your next sample. It could be a contaminant. Try 5,000 miles next time.

Amsoil tends to have a problem with thickening sometimes, so there isnt anything new with what your UOA says.Also, you should go 5000k miles on the AMsoil then have it tested, im pretty sure any amsoil oil can go 5k miles no problem. Fatty, Im doing all my vehicles now so when i get this Amsoil outta my Taco Ill post the UOA. After its gone I'm going to the German Castrol 0w-30 (which starts with a 67 viscosity)and if it gives me the numbers its been giving everyone else then thats whats staying in the ol 3.4.

so if it's a 10w40 does that mean I should change it? how thick do I let it get before changing it?

How do you take an oil sample without contaminating it?
Can I just put a tube down the dipstick and suck some oil out with a pump? Or do I need to drain it and catch some in the container as it drains? My Runner is still new and I got a maintenance plan with it, so the dealer changes the oil ( I have recently switched to Mobil1, so they just put it in for me).

Most oils thin over time, but what some have seen with amsoil is it thickens at first, then thins, probably twice the miles on your oil you'll see it thinning down. I have no doubt from my amsoil used analysis that it would easily go 5k miles and i expect for the same results in my car. Its a great oil, it, mobil, and german castrol are 3 of the best out there and you cant go wrong with any of them from the results ive seen at bob is the oil guy.

You want to collect it with the engine warmed up to operating temp first of all. Bset way to catch the oil is for them to pull the plug, let some oil drain for 2-3 seconds then start collecting. I had a local place do my car since its too damn low to be messin with and they did it fine, I just told the guy what I needed and how I needed it collected. Its important that its done this way though for accurate testing.

Is sampling fresh (1000 miles) dino oil a waste of money? I am interested in the condition of my engines more than knowing how well the oil is holding up. Should I just wait until 3000 miles? Also does the test from amsoil only test amsoil oil or do they test any type of oil?

Checking it early would tell you if you have a headgasket leak or something like that, for engine wear issues id let it go your normal interval then test it to make sure the oil and filter your using is doing the job you want it too. The lab will test anything even unused oil, its Blackstone Labs and they charge $20 for an anaylsis. Email them and they will send you a free kit, just go to their site.
