Please have a look at my updated 4runner (New 99+ painted bumpers, grill and lights)

I recently moved from Portland, OR back to Boston, MA and have been absent from the board for quite some time. Just thought I'd drop in and share some updated pictures of my 4runner. I've made some major aesthetic updates to the exterior of my 98'. I picked up front and rear Limited bumpers off of this forum for ~400 total. I had them painted and mounted by a body shop that my company works with (supposed discount) for a price of $500. Once they were prepped, painted, and dried, I only had to be without my 4runner for an afternoon while they mounted the bumpers. I also picked up a set of 99+ multireflective headlights from Jason Burtman and an 01 grill off of ebay. I'm really happy with the way everything turned out. The two tone is very subtle, and it's kind of cool having the only 4runner like it on the road. I may pickup some 01 tail lights soon but my funds are obviously diminished. I did sell the old chrome bumpers for almost $300, which helped make this project a bit more affordable. Here is a before shot and some newer ones. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks really nice. It definitely looks like the newer limiteds. Dumb question: did you also buy the bigger flares with the bumpers or did you already have them?

it looks good .. but if I were doing it, just to make it different then all the other runners with that color scheme I would have made it all one color.

The flares are actually the same size. The perspective of the pictures just makes them look different.

Not anymore. I moved there from Boston two years ago, but now I'm back. I need to update my profile.

I was thinking about it, but I would have had to pull off all the side cladding and rear flares and pay to have them repainted. Budget constraints. What do you think of the chrome grill? I was thinking of having a grill painted as well, but the little bit of chrome seems to accent the vehicle nicely.

Love that color.
Thanks! Black was my original choice when shopping for 4runners, but the deal on this one was too good to pass up. The only thing I hate is when when I'm asked by RMV/Insurance/Misc. what the color is and the only response is "brown". By the way, who is that looker in your avatar?!

Thought so. You don't see too many like her around!

I just noticed that you have a limited version. So you already had the bigger flares? I have an SR5 and the flares are much smaller or don't stick out as much. Was the only difference between the limited front bumper on your 98 to the 99 the "fat lip?"

Nope. The whole bumper is different. The new version is painted, instead of chrome. The turn signals on the updated bumper are part of the lower valence, as opposed to the bumper itself. The size and mounts for the bumper are different as well. The thing weighs about 3X as much as the old one!
