Painting the BRAKE CALIPERS???

Is this possible to pain the calipers?
If YES, how hard would this be?
What do you think they would look like red?

Yup it's possible. They even make special kits with special paint just for this application. They require some good prep work but I've seen it done on some Bling cars. Red would look cool I think if can see them through your wheels.

Calipers

nothing but masking stuff off with aluminum foil and some plastic
high heat rated paint frrom the autozone
paint on a few coats

Momo did his red - bling!

Not very hard at all. I'm going to do mine black to cover up where I had to grind one to fit a tire on my last set of rims.

Butnut has some tips in the Tech section.

Look under the Cosmetic area for his write-up.

I've painted the calipers on a few of my cars and here's my 2 cents.

- Make sure you get a high quality, and especially a high temp paint. Personally, I've used G2 and Folia Tec and have had great results with both. You could use cheaper stuff if you're not too hard on the brakes.

-G2 and Folia Tec use an accelerator to help dry it faster. I HIGHLY recommend that if you use an accelerator, to only mix half of it at one time. It dry quicker than you think.

-Clean the calipers VERY WEll before you paint them. Both kits I've used included a spray cleaner with them which made it nice - not necessary, but nice.

-Some friends have used the spray kind. Personally, I like the brush-on. It gives more control and as long as you get a good quality brush to put it on with, it will look at least as good. (I've gone to a local art store for the brushes, but hobby stores would probably have good quality brushes too).

- If you're anal about it, you can remove the calipers and get every little millimeter. I left mine on while I painted them and no one could tell the difference.

-One coat would probably cover well, but I recommend using two coats. It's more time, but much more durable.

good luck,

I did mine in silver when I replaced my rotors figured why not since I had the wheels and rotors off. Just mask off with a little tape and as someone mentioned foil works well since it bends around things nicely. Yes just use some high temp paint or caliper paint if you want to spend a little more money. Mine held out well almost a year and you can't tell . I also did the rear drums when I was at it.
