So I know a guy with a home made cnc machine and if he has time he is going to buzz out a custom printed style control board from copper-clad board for me.

Like this.

While you are doing all of this, I wounder if it would be possible to create an output that would ground for ~.3-.7 seconds from the time the shift was started till it is finished?

The idea being you hook that output up to something that could cause a fuel cut for that split second while it is shifting so as to keep the transmission alive.

These transmissions can hold a lot of power in gear, where they fail 95% of the time is during shifting. With my valve body done I at least don't feel horrible for letting it shift under WOT but I still try to avoid it as much as possible. It would be nice to have something that would cut fuel/spark for a split second during the shift to keep the transmission alive.

Any ideas on this one?

Just a cell phone video to document progress, but you get the idea. Still fun to see an idea come to life.

might be to late for this but how about adding the ability to shift into N. that way you can sit at a light without holding the brakes

Not possible with solenoid control. That requires the shifter to be in a different position than drive.

What happens when someone rear ends you? lol I used to do that in my old manual truck. Then I got rear ended and realized why it's good to have your foot on the brake anyway (could have avoided hitting the guy in front of me....). It really sucks to mess up the front and back at the same time....

funny you mention this but all the stick shift vehicles including when i ride. i sit at the light in N. the impact is much greater on your body if you keep your vehicle from moving forward. true that you can do more damage to your ride but im more concern about my well being. i was recently rear ending and was pushed forward not much because i did get back on the brakes after i left it rolled a little. plus i keep my distance with the vehicles in front of me. this was in my DD honda accord which i dont care too much for now. my runner, i soon will have armor all around so my ride well be well protected from idiot drivers. person preference i guess

I might be wrong, but I could swear I've read that there is a power cut during shifts already.

Not on our trucks for sure. I wish there was. If i let off the gas even a little between shifts it snaps right into gear. Hold it WOT and it struggles to get the gear fully engaged.

I'd think letting off during shifting like that could cause more harm then good. After all a stock ecu bases the firmness and in certain instances the quickness of the shift directly on the amount on thottle you are giving it at the time. I couldn't agree more that a power cut would help, but I'd be a little leary of letting off right before a shift while driving really agressive. I'd say if it is struggling to get into gear that bad you are probably throwing way too much power at your transmission concidering how worn out it is. You prob need to do a performance rebuild and actually do some tuning in the valvebody rather than just electronic.

We have cable operated transmissions. The ECU only tells it to shift, it has no control over how hard it shifts. Letting off the gas does lesson the line pressure but the loss of power overrides it and makes the shift MUCH faster and easier on the transmission for sure.

My old transmission lasted pretty good with me letting off before the shift, it wasn't until I started holding it WOT between shifts that it died. Course that was with the stock valve body but still, same thing applies.

i have to disagree: in neutral, no foot on the brake, the truck is able to move freely. if a car rear-ends you, the truck moves while you stay put. newton's 3rd law lets your body be slammed back into the seat at the rate the truck was moved by the car.
if your foot was firmly on the brake, the forward motion of the truck would be much less, with your body slammed less into your seat.

the damage inflicted on the truck is inverse to the damage inflicted on the driver (in the truck, anyway)

Wow I'm suprised. I'll look into it more... I think I have an idea for that cutoff tho. Could you just cut spark or would you need to cut fuel as well I assume...
