I probably change the MAF first then the O2 sensor because the MAF should be the cheaper of the 2 items.

Wish i could have said the same for mine, the MAF was $300 for a rebuilt one from napa, and like 600 new from the dealer. Damn 96's.. Ended up being a vacume leak.... a 59? O-Ring. so i got stuck with the new/rebuilt maf. i should put it on ebay or something.

I remember your S/C was leaking, right?

She's fixed! I finally bit the bullet and took our '99 to the Dealership for a Diagnostic check. The found out it was indeed the MAF sensor so replaced it and now it runs great. No more check engine light, no more sluggish running like it's pulling a trailer, and now it will finally reach the redline! Total cost for diag. parts and labor was $400 so it was hard to swallow but worth it.

$400!?!? Wow you could have gotten the MAF for $110 shipped online and installed it yourself, (it's only a couple screws).

Brandy,

Do you have a cali truck? Could you peek under your truck and tell me if you got 2 cats or 1?

I recently replaced all my 02 sensors because i was fighting the 136 error its gone now. but i got the CEL yesterday im suspecting its the 171. Im thinking about replacing my maf. Let me know if you want to buy a used a/f sensor from me.

if you want to buy new parts

www.1sttoyotaparts.com

has the best prices believed me i checked. Just make sure you got the right part number.

The $400 included $89.95 for the diagnostic test plus one of the screws was stripped out. The cheapest I could find a Denso replacement was $240 so I felt it was worth it to have them be responsible if the light came back on. Like I said, it was a little hard to swallow because I usually do ALL of my own work but I was just glad to have it figured out.

I got the old MAF back just to tinker with it since it seems like replacing a few cheap components could make it work again. Anyone have thoughts on this?
