Oversize throttle body

Im in the process of rebuilding a core 3vze, and I cant help but notice some of the BS engineering that has gone into this motor. Also, there is so much ˟˟˟˟ packed into the valve covers and intake plenum! Carbon carbon carbon! I had to drill all of the little plastic rivets out that hold the heatshields on the inside of the valve covers. It was the only way to clean them out! A PCV catchcan will definately be installed. Of course, ill be installing the new motor with some headers, but im also looking into an oversize throttle body and a custom intake plenum.

The turbo Supra's (87-92) are sometimes upgraded with a Q45 throttle body - I think that the turbo supra TPS bolts right on. However, the non-turbo supras (which use the same TPS as we do) share a lot of the 3vz electronics. There has to be some vehicle we could borrow a TB from.

So, here is my question: Is there a larger TB available (80mm or so) that we can attatch our TPS to?

Man!! 80mm TB on a naturally aspirated 3.0. If this is going in a 4runner I bet the airflow meter barley flows 300 CFM. Will you be changing that as well? You would need to make well over 300HP to see the benefit of such a large TB.

The supra guys upgrade because turbo cars love big throttle bodies. I know because I own one. I would bet money that the TB on the 3.0 is one of the less restrctive parts on the engine.

Yeah, ive got an 88 supra as well. One reason im eyeing the larger TB is because of this website: http://www.doaracingengines.com/tbodies.html

I dont have an NA supra so I dont have any idea about how big the AFM is. But some people have said that compared to the AFM from the 3vz its a bit bigger.

The intake plenum of the 3vz is garbage. I think that a custom plenum with the same runner length that doesnt have that 180 degree bend would be wonderful. Especially when attatched to a large, unrestrictive throttle body.

Since you are opening things up, definately pick up the AFM from a 7mge, the electrical output (resistances) are identicle to those on the 3vze and it flows a LOT more air then the stock 3vze AFM. The 3vze AFM only has ~4sq in to breathe through.... I just bought the polished AFM that was on ebay a while back.

Did you notice any performance increase from the larger AFM?

Don't listen to anything Tim from DOA has to say, he's just trying to steal your money and isn't going to make you any real power.
He got me big time. Beware doing any business with a company named Dead On Arrivial.
In my case it fortold the future.
