Overheating?...or not?

Overheating?...or not?
I have a 1986 Toyota Pickup. It seems to want to run hot. Heres a following of what has been replaced:Waterpump,Thermostat,Coolant,Clutch for engine fan. The coolant level is fine..and doesn't drop after running the engine...if you drive the truck the temp stays pretty normal but as soon as you let it idle it starts creeping up..it will creep up to 2/3s of the way..then we turn it off.
I was just wondering if anyone here had any idea on some other things that could be checked..anything that is getting overlooked, etc?
Let me add that the engine is a 22-RE and its Fuel Injected. My dad and uncle have been working on it..and it still wants to get to hot...its really fustrating when you spend quite a bit of time on it and get nowhere. So if at all possilbe..any would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Matt.

I just experienced the exact same symptoms you have described on my 87 pickup (290,000 miles). I had also replaced the fan clutch and thermostat (but not my water pump). My radiator was only about 1 year old so I thought it would be all right.....
WRONG! I took it to a radiator shop and they popped the cap and inserted a probe into one of the radiator tubes right below the cap. He let me feel how it was clogged and said i need it rodded out. It cost me $70 to get it rodded out (i pulled it and replaced the radiator myself) and that cured it, my temp guage never goes over 1/3 of the way up now. If your radiator is original (18 years old!) I wouldn't even mess with rodding it out, you probably need a new one. I think the last new one I bought was about $140 (aftermarket) or so. No matter whether you go with rodding the old one or getting a new one you need to thoroughly flush your block and heater core before reassembling your coolng system. We have extremely hard water around here so I always use distilled water when I refill. This may not be what is wrong with yours but it only takes a minute to check if you've got one of those radiator tube probes.
good luck!

Thanks Barkey for the help.
We will have to the radiator checked out for sure. The engine is brand new with probably not even a hundred miles or atleast not much over that. I had a peek inside the radiator a while back and it was rusted...so it wouldn't suprise me if a core was clogged. I will use distilled water after we get it checked and I re-fill.
I ride dirt bikes, one is air cooled, the other is liquid cooled..I always use distilled water mixed 50/50 with Prestone Dex-Cool antifreeze in the CR250R. You don't see a hint of rust throughout the the motor either.

I had the same thing happen to me as barkey did. Except that I bought the radiator form a local radiator shop. I spent 2 years replacing everything that has to do with the coolant system. I finally replace the radiator 2 months ago and that was the problem. Unfortunately, I think I has taken a large toll on the motor.
