out of the shop..!

Finally got my 4runner back.

Put on a little protection for the next deer. Main thought was to keep animals from bustin my new radiator. This is the first time I have ever towed a car of mine.

Hey that's my old guard! take care of her, that's the last known one of its kind in existence. Looking good, but i don't think that thing will save you much in the event another deer runs in your way

You got it! well lets just say I have a better shot. I dont expect a "Win" agianst a deer .

But our bumpers should just have been made of plastic, as thin as the metal is.

You are correct. That is as little protection as I can imagine. Now if you are unlucky enough to hit a deer dead center of your Runner, you will not only destroy your front end and radiator, but a perfectly good light bar as well.

I would say that bar would do more damage than good. Looks great though, maybe with the hellas you'll be able to see them better.

Looks Great
Protection...
That depatable...
Someone just had there Runner totaled from hitting a Jeep Liberty at 40MPH
and they had a brush guard and it didn't help, actually harmed more...

Maybe a good ARB would save you from a deer?

Still Lookin Good!

I have hit a deer with mine hard enough to embed hair into the paint and it held up. But anything bigger or at higher speeds I know even and ARB or similar full coverage bar will be damaged also. The point is just to minimize damage to the vehicle. Much easier to unbolt and replace a bull bar than to have to deal with bodywork.

Yes I agree the light bar would be destroyed....But come on guys I dont think this bar is going to keep the truck from getting messed up Don't care. But having a small amount of real metal up front would have helped keep the radiatior form being cracked.

anyway I am not going to test my idea, so it's one opinion I think with a TJM I could have driven the truck home....again I expect cosmetic damage, just want the truck to run

psssst....I have a confession, I did it for the looks.!

I will have to find a better excuse for a Yakima rack, when I already have a factory rack.

or my BFG's when my goodyears are perfectly fine.

Thanks for the comments

For the roof rack...
"It hold more and has more function then the stock"
My excuse to mom when I get mine (she will give in though since she actually regrets stepdad not getting a beeter roof rack then stock..)

For the BFG's
"There alot better than the Goodyears IMHO!!"
(Only A/T and M/T are good BFG tires, I had the Rugged Trails and everytime it rianed I made sure I prayed before I even step foot in the Runner... But the A/T's I have Rule!!! Step dad has teh Fortera series goodyears on his, htere great mind you, but for off-roading... I wouldn't suggest them...)

How does a brushguard do more harm then good? Its made of a thicker metal then my bumper and my hood is...so wouldnt that atleast slow whatever I hit down a little before it hit the 4runner itself?

Not exactly... I'm not an expert on the strength of metals or anything (I'll leave that up to shaeffer or some other welder). I do know I have seen on a Warn brushguard WITH a winch shoved up into the radiator even though the brushguard seemed solid. It happened to my Uncle's old Ford 150 when he smacked a deer dead on at 50mph. I'm even doubtful a TJM or ARB could hold up, but I've never seen or experienced firsthand on either ones so I won't comment, but hit a mass at the right velocity then damage is bound to occur.

My understanding of it is that is when the brushguard impacts something and crunches, it will be bend/will crunch/break other things that probably would've survived if not for the brushguard bending into them.

We might be starting a Metal vs. Flesh debate soon....

I agree with the car vs brushgaurd idea...more damage because it folds in onto the truck.

TJM vs. Deer.....I think the truck would be saved(depending on speed)

my little WAAG might save me from a jumpy coyote
