They do look kinda chunky with deep tread;would these be a bit much for an all year 'round tire.

I just want the stock size and Discount Tire has 'em for a good price.

Other tires I was considering were the Bridgestone Revos or the Michelin LTXs but the Michelins looked a bit tame to me.

I had a set on my 2000 LE Pathfinder, tires where great in wet weather I could not spin on take off and I really felt glued to the ground around turns and on the highway in heavy downpours In snow they cut through like I was on tracks, you almost have to watch yourself cause in 4-6 inches of snow it feels more like your driving in rain then actual snow, you can still spin out if your heavy on the gas but if you drive normally you will be shocked at how good the tires are, their all around excellent tires in dry, wet and snowy conditions.

Im gonna put a set on my 4Runner before the winter

I only put 15k on them and they had no real wear

I have had great experinace using these tires. They handle great in any situation. I will never waste money on another tire for my 4Runner unless I am getting stricly mud tires...

I think he was talking about either the AT's or HT's. Anyhoo... they are both very good. I am putting the HT's on my wifes Durango soon.

go with the yokohamas. i have AT's and they have been very good to me. they are a little noisy, but nothing crazy. and if anything, they are Japanese! cant go wrong there! Kyle

I had the Geolandar II+ A/T and they were great. Siping them makes them better on road but I think would rip tread if you do heavy rock crawling on them.

I like the Pirelli Scorpion too

Does sipping make them wear faster, and I never had a problem with them onroad

Siping is supposed to make them last longer, give better traction, better mpg's, reduce heat buildup.

The only thing is if they sipe the treads too close to the edges, you could possibly rip a chunk of tread off on rocks. If they are careful about siping, I don't think it would be a problem.

I'm also looking at tires, but do these have the sidewall protection of BFG ATs?
I want some tires that will last on road, and be good for occasional trail use. The BFGs do that and give me piece of mind about my sidewalls. I like the look of the Yokohamas and the Pirelli Scorpions, but I can't find any info on # of sidewall plys. Probably because they have less than 3.

What's the big diff of the H/Ts vs the A/Ts?

I have thought about the Perrelli's also but what about the REVOs?

My opinion on siping is: don't do it;on my AWD Eclipse I would have never done that to the tires because they will chunk under cornering (I'm sure off raoding would hurt 'em too) and IMO is a bit of a waste of money if you have AWD/4WD and have good tires already. My Eclipse saw 5 mountain winters and with just all seasons on it I never had a problem with snow unless it got too deep and then it was just clearence issues. Siping is just a money maker for those tire places and they push it way too much and put fear into people saying it's important.

Maybe its a different Yoko tire, but the Geolanders are pretty vanilla. I think the stock Dunflops on my Runner are meatier and have a more aggressive lug than these Yoko Ono's. My wife has them on her Subaru and at 15K seem kinda worn.

Another tire you may want to consider looking at is the Toyo Open Country A/T. I have them and they are great. A great all around tire. Not too noisy on the street, decent off road as well. They also look pretty good. Just a suggestion.

Yokahama's are great tires. My dad had a set that lasted 65K miles a Ford Superduty, but if you want the best all-around tire for road and off-road, in my opinion and many others, go with the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos. They are also the highest rated All-terrain at tire rack, probably for a reason.

I did see that the Bridgestone Revos were rated high in all category and do have a nice aggressive look so right now it's between the Yoks and those.

I just talked to Discount Tire and the Yoks do have a 50,000 mile warranty while the Revos don't have a mileage warranty at all;they are however priced nearly the same and I can get either out the door for under $600 with everything.

For comparison the traditional BFGs T/As were about $100 to $150 more depending on whether it was the 70 series or the 75s.

I've had nitto's on cars in the past and they seemed to do fine... very good wet traction.

Hmmm,not a bad looking tire but dealing with sport car tires the Nitto's had some quality issues and don't think I'm ready to give those a try till I see more from them.
