The search function

As many of you have noticed the search function isn't working right now. It seems the database is corrupt and must be rebuilt. It should be back soon.

Thanks for bearing with us.

ah...hmmm.
Maybe I spoke too soon?
I know that the new posts search is up... I checked to see if search would go to the proper page but didn't search for anything :pat:

I just pulled a search on myself and everything looked okay to me.

EDIT: no, wait a second...

What you're seeing is that the indices of the database are still being rebuilt. The search will present results based on how result the messages are. So, "new posts" will work fine, since those index records are most recent.

Searching for data that would occur in older messages will be hit and miss for a while until the indices are fully populated.

As a guess, figure that things will be "normal" in about 12 hours.

We seem to be operating at a much better speed now.
Lets hope it stays this way.

Yes, the database takes a while to get rebuilt, and as it's being reuploaded, it puts a heavy taxation on the server and it will run a little slower.

It even effects my personal site since I am also on the same box.

Flood check is on in my admin panel:

Floodcheck - Minimum time between searches
The minimum time (in seconds) that must expire before the user can search again. Set this to 0 to disable it.
I can set it to zero right now, but may have to set it back to 20 or 30 seconds if it causes a snafu.
To many searching at once, and with no time delay could tax us, I am not sure.

As of right now, it's now set to zero for ya

With the backend of vB being MySQL, and if I remember right this server is pretty good sized with a lot of RAM, and that the indices are really small right now, and knowing that the most users ever on the system at once was 154, then you're not going to have a problem.

Apache is probably eating more CPU feeding the pages out than MySQL is doing searches.

Thanks for opening it up Corey!

Why cant i search for the CV axle mod? It states:

The search term you specified (cv) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.
I since people rarely refer to them as "Constant Velocity" axles i think im gonna have trouble finding them in a search. Has it always been like this? Ive never had the problem before.

If you can fix it, thank you. If you cant, then, umm....

That is because each word must be at least 3 letters long.
I will look into this today, and I can set it to 2.

Be advised though, our database still has not been restored from backup, so you can't search back for more than a week until it gets restored.

No database restore yet.
At this point in time, I have no date.

The search and view new posts has been turned off.
The data base is being rebuilt right now, so it should all be good to go by morning.
