ok, im looking into getting an 87 in the next few weeks, and the one that im looking at the oil smells like gasoline,
first few things i thought were, float seat is shot in the carb, and its flooding it severly, or the engine is needing major repair like a rebuild.
what do ya'll think.

i dunno if it helped or not, it just increases my knowledge and barganing power with the guyes,
it isnt my truck,so im apprehensive about buying it, but i figure with the fact that it needs "major" work on the engine, and that fact that it dosnet have a cd player, and some other stuff, i should be able to get it down to a killer price, everyone is scared by the oil i think cause its been there for a while now, im gonna drive it today or tommorow, and then sleep on it for a few days while i think.
i let you know what it was if i get it though.

gas in oil
This happended to my 87 22r in december. I began investigation after the top end started to get loud. Since it had a mechanical fuel pump I gambled on the diaphram leaking into the crankcase oil. I changed pumps, changed oil and drained out 7 qts. The only indication i had was the truck was getting much harder to crank in the morning. Replacing the pump stopped the gas in oil and now i'm hoping i didn't do major damage. The hard to start problem was gone completely and the top end noise went away but i'm sure engine life will be reduced.

yeah, i dont care to much about engine life on this truck if i were to get it, its mostly just got to last me a few months while i build a new engine and get stuff ready for it, but i just want to make sure its not something drastic that i didnt know about the 22r engines that would let a rod go in 3 minutes or something.
