Oil Filter Relocation w/Oil Cooler?

I've been spec'ing out my parts list for relocating the oil filter in my '97 4Runner. I'm planning on using mostly Earl's parts.

Oil filter mount: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-2178ERL/
Filter adapter: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-1178ERL/
I'll be using Earl's hose and fittings too.

Currently I run Mobil 1 5w-30 with a factory Toyota oil filter for a Tundra. When I relocate the filter I will probably run a Napa Gold 1516 which is a re-branded Wix filter. I typically end up going around 5K on my oil changes.

I'm debating whether I should run a small oil cooler or not? Has anyone found it beneficial with the 5VZ-FE? Would I see an benefits?

Also, is the 5VZ-FE oil pump able to handle a relocated filter or oil cooler? Am I asking for trouble?

Thanks

There's zero issue as far as oil pressure goes.

I wouldn't waste all the money on those Earl's components. Go with the Permacool stuff. Should be about $40 for both the spin on adapter and remote mount. Just forward of the oil filter on the inside of the frame is a conveniently located, threaded hole to bolt the filter mount to.

I'm running two B&M 70273 oil coolers (one for engine, one for trans). They use 1/2 NPT fittings so it's easy to orient your fittings with them. It can never hurt to run an oil cooler, that's for sure. If you have at least 1.5" of body lift, you'll create a great place to mount these coolers along the lower rail of the radiator support.

I do recommend using some form of AN fittings. In my case, I'm using Summit's Twist Tite stuff. Works really well and the connections are amazingly strong. Not super pricey, either.

I'd be wary of using stainless braided hose. Unless you put a sheath on it, it's very prone to developing leaks in such an exposed area on a vehicle destined for dust and mud.

I was looking at this hose: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-350610ERL/

Would I be better using -8AN or -10AN? Theres only a few dollars difference for the fittings and hose between the two sizes.

I don't really mind the costs, you have to pay for quality. Most likely I will be swapping a 1UZ into this rig at the end of this summer or over winter break, so I'll reuse this setup with the swap.

Thanks

I went with -8. I think it works just fine and the bulk of -10 might be a little harder to work with.

If you're going to try a 1UZ swap, you'll have to have a body lift, so you'll definitely create the perfect mounting location for a cooler about the size of the B&M.

That looks like nice hose to use. I'm not real happy with the cotton covered hydraulic hose I used, it is very stiff.

Some things to keep in mind:

The engine moves relative to the body and frame (a lot sometimes). It moves one way in drive and the other way in reverse, especially in 4W low.

Oil hoses can drain out if they are above the factory oil filter causing dry starts.
