OEM mini header install for 2.7L*(Pics)*
So this all started the other day when I was driving down the road with the windows down and the music off.
I was driving past some of those concrete highway dividers and heard the tell tail sign of a exhaust leak - tick tick tick
after further lissening (standing next to truck as some one drove) it was true
Since I have the 2.7L I knew it was the manifold.
After a brief time and a few choice words I found this-
heat sheild
the crack
I will be getting the exhaust mainfold from a 01+ 2.7L
they are like a mini header that bolt right up to the factory down pipe
part# 17141-75080 this is a direct bolt on they run around $150 from the dealer
Here are some pics of this manifold not on my truck-
I will be posting more picture as I go step by step

You caught that crack at the perfect time. I have seen manifolds cracked completely in HALF! Apparently people don't understand how bad exhaust leaks can be...ie suck a valve!
Thats a good swap idea on the 2.7L manifold. Definetly do a swap, and talk to Corey about making it a sticky. It my be a permanent fix to the terribly designed 2.7/2.4 manifold design.

Will talk to Corey about this swap becoming a Sticky
yeah they are the best replacment in my mind because -
they are going to seal and stay sealed
toyota made them
they flow better then the old ones
complete bolt up
TTORA has a lot of info over there on this swap

Went to the stealership and got a quote for $265 which is crazy. Everybody that has done this over on TTORA say 150-180 out the door at there stealership so now I am going to start calling around to find a used one.

If they told you $150, they were simply NOT using Factory toyota parts from the dealer.

List price on that manifold from toyota is $227. $265 is still way too high, so talk to Strap22 on here and get a discounted price!
Or just go to that link I sent you above.

I'm in the market for a mini-header upgrade for my 2000 4runner. I was planning to upgrade the rest of my exhaust- i.e. free flow cat and muffler- at the same time, but I'm struggling with the decision between 2.25" and 2.5" for the pipe.
I've heard from at least 2 knowledgeable people that its best to go with 2.25" on this 4 cylinder motor in order to maintain proper back pressure and torque. But others say 2.5" is the way to go.
I measured the stock pipe and it appears to be 2.25", at least on my truck. So maybe I should just get the mini-header and leave it at that for now.
***EDIT*** Checked again in better light and can see that the 2.25" is just the last foot or so, where it flares out slightly. The stock pipe size appears to be 2". So I will go with 2.25" for my new system.
I would like to hear what size exhaust other 3RZ 2.7L engine owners are going with.
RE dealer pricing on this item- it is worth it to print out lower online prices and give your local dealer the chance to match it. Sometimes they won't go quite as low, but you also need to factor in shipping charges. My experience lately is that with the slow economy they are more amenable to working with you, some cash flow is better than none at all!

But the stock Toyota mini-header is the same dimensions as the cast version, and apparently fits the same downpipe. So I'm guessing/hoping the mini header will fit my 4runner...I plan to buy a junkyard one unless the dealer can match $170.
